Tempus

Supporting a brand through rapid growth

Brief
Established in 1976, CIA (Chris Ingrams Associates) had grown into the second largest integrated media communications specialist in the UK. When the business went public, we were asked to create a new name and identity to support a new phase of growth.

Solution
After appropriate analysis, we proposed the brand name 'Tempus’ and ‘Tempus Group' (from the Latin – time; a fit time or opportunity) and created the distinctive brand mark, combining the name with a simple red square symbol, reminiscent of an oriental 'chop-seal' device – the signature of a trusted and well-regarded business. This was applied to all corporate media in a full brand identity exercise.

Results
The new brand quickly became recognised and Tempus Group plc expanded further to become the ninth largest media buyer globally.

WPP successfully concluded a £437 million hostile take-over of Tempus, which then became a valued brand within the WPP Group.
