A digital transformation for Hawaii’s finest luxury hotel

The Kahala Hotel & Resort, Honolulu’s legendary luxury hideaway adored by stars, presidents and royalty, has transformed its digital presence with the launch of a new responsive-designed website, created by London agency Nucleus.

The Following The Kahala's global search for a new digital partner, Nucleus was appointed in mid-2015, with a brief to transform its digital platform, deepen customer engagement and extend digital reach. Nucleus studied The Kahala’s market position in the context of new competitive openings, helped reposition the brand with a clear value proposition and rewrote all the website content to reflect The Kahala’s refreshed narrative.

Design for the mobile era
The cutting-edge design utilises a new information architecture, responsive design, parallax scrolling and a “sticky” single-level navigation to engage users in the new digital brand experience. Finely calibrated roll-overs and transitions create a sense of 5-star luxury with every interaction. The content is translated in its entirety into Japanese, Chinese and Korean and is managed via a best-of-breed Kentico CMS.

The new website can be viewed at www.kahalaresort.com

The elegant user interface is designed on a simple grid structure, echoing the architecture of the iconic sixties building. The website seamlessly adapts from large screens to tablets and smartphones to reflect the changing web browsing habits of its worldwide audience, while Nucleus’ global cloud hosting solution is paired with an Akamai content distribution network to deliver fast download speeds across the world.

Key analytics data already show significant improvements in reach, user experience metrics and online conversion. The revised The Kahala brand mark is confidently portrayed across the site supported by a fresh typographic styling combining both classical and contemporary influences. The overall effect elegantly harmonises past and present bringing the brand into the mobile era and setting a new standard for luxury hotel website design.”
