Redesigning a collection of 3 award-winning Indian restaurant websites

Brief

MW Eat owns and operates three of London’s finest Indian restaurants, two of them Michelin-starred. Amaya, at the junction of Knightsbridge and Belgravia, Veeraswamy near Piccadilly Circus and Chutney Mary in St. James are all rooted in a deep understanding of authentic Indian cuisine. Nucleus had designed the previous generation of websites back in 2013 and after ten years return on investment, was asked to repeat the exercise.

Solution

With the vast majority of traffic visiting the restaurant websites now being mobile, we used responsive website design to create a flexible format that can be customised to reflect each restaurant’s individual proposition, while also being easy to use on all devices. The use of colour, texture, high quality images, parallax scrolling and a well-structured typographic style distinct to each restaurant, has resulted in websites that convey much of the inviting atmosphere and idiosyncratic style, as well as the delectable food. While the previous websites had served the business exceptionally well, we recommended a change of technical platform to reduce licensing and maintenance costs and improve user-friendliness, selecting Umbraco for all sites.

With online booking via SevenRooms, we designed a number of secure forms for large party enquiries, contact us, newsletter subscriptions and restaurant feedback.

Results

The websites have driven online reservations to an all-time high and feedback from users has been very positive. Once the trilogy of restaurant websites were completed, MW Eat asked us to re-platform Masala Zone, their chain of informal dining restaurants onto the same Umbraco CMS platform and then redesign their India Collection and MW Eat websites to complete the picture.

The Group welcomes 18,000 guests through its doors each week and has an annual turnover of more than £26 million.
